“For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.”
? Aristotle, The Nicomachean Ethics
In grade 2, today the learners explored the concepts of elasticity and flexibility through simple and engaging experiments using everyday objects. These experiments helped young learners grasp these scientific concepts in a hands-on manner.
Our learners blew up balloons and observed how they stretch and return to their original shape. This demonstrates elasticity as the balloon can stretch when inflated and then return to its original size.
Another experiment involved hair bands. By stretching and releasing hair bands, students saw how they stretch to accommodate different sizes and shapes, showcasing their elasticity.
Students gently bent the ruler and noticed how it flexes without breaking. This demonstrates flexibility, as the ruler can bend without snapping.
Lastly, tin rulers were used to teach the concept of elasticity as well.
These hands-on experiments not only made learning fun for our young learners but also laid the foundation for their understanding of elasticity and flexibility in the world around them.
